There are many musicians in the world but some of them go on to reach a status that is not obtained by many. Unfortunately, we have lost one of those musical titans.
Quincy Jones, who was well-known for his own music as well as working with others, passed away at the age of 91. It was announced and confirmed by Arnold Robinson, his publicist who shared the statement from the family.
That statement read: “Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’s passing.
“And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
As of this time, no cause of death has been provided by the family.
The statement went on to say: “We take comfort and immense pride in knowing that the love and joy, that were the essence of his being, was shared with the world through all that he created.
“Through his music and his boundless love, Quincy Jones’s heart will beat for eternity.”
Over his career, he was nominated for 80 Grammy Awards and won 28 of them. He has a number of credits to his name but it was his work on the Thriller album with Michael Jackson really shines through.
The 1969 Film, The Italian Job was also credited to him as he composed the soundtrack. In 1985, he oversaw the charity song, ‘We Are the World.’
Jones gave an interview with the Library of Congress in 2016, speaking about how Thriller left a legacy to the world of music. He said: “If an album doesn’t do well, everyone says ‘it was the producer’s fault’; so if it does well, it should be your ‘fault’ too.
“The tracks don’t just all of a sudden appear. The producer has to have the skill, experience and ability to guide the vision to completion.”
Prior to getting into music, he had a difficult childhood. His mother was admitted to a mental health hospital and he spent much of his life on the streets as a child.
We are so thankful he was able to overcome those difficulties and provide us with the music that we love so much.
