A Talented Singing Icon Has Passed Away

Our hearts are full of sadness anytime we have to announce the death of a celebrity. Since so many people know them and follow their lives and their careers, it has an impact that is unmistakable.

Unfortunately, we have to report that Debra Byrd has passed away at the age of 72. She was a voice teacher and singer and was part of shows that were very popular, including American Idol and The Voice.

The performer passed away in Los Angeles at her home on Tuesday. At this point, the exact cause of her death has not been confirmed.

A number of famous individuals have left tributes after Deborah passed away. This includes a friend and coworker for a very long time, Barry Manilow. He informed his social media followers on Instagram.

“I’ve never been so sad in my life today. I just can’t fathom the thought of Debra not being with me anymore.

“I had one of the best friends ever in her. My love, I will always miss you.”

There have been many famous singers who worked with Deborah, including Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson, and Bob Dylan.

Jennifer went on X to share her condolences, saying: “Heartbroken over the passing of Debra Byrd, the vocal coach on American Idol.

“From the start, she gave us hope and support!

“It’s amazing how much she taught us. She will be missed very much, but her music lives on through the work of many artists she inspired during her lifetime. Rest in peace, Debra.”

Clay Aiken wrote: “I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that no one was a better mentor, coach, teacher, or champion to us Idol contestants than Byrd was.”

She worked with many famous celebrities, including with Bob Dylan as a coach on a concert tour in Australia in the 80s. She worked with Stevie Nicks, Dylan, and Tom Petty on the 1986 song, Band of the Hand.’

Debra also was in a number of movies, including Sister Act II, The Lion King 1½, and The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. She worked in the production of the 2019 Super Bowl tribute to Prince.

We will miss Debra. May she rest in peace.
