Have you ever found something in your attic or perhaps tucked away in a box and you have no idea what it is for? These are often vintage items that were very useful at one time but may have disappeared for the most part.
That was the case with this interesting piece of metal. At first glance, you might have a difficult time even considering what it could be used for but once you know the true use, you will see that it was an ingenious product.
Many years ago, almost everybody would work on their own vehicles. This was especially true if they were doing routine maintenance, such as changing the oil.
When it came time to change the oil, we would usually grab one of these pieces of metal and we would be happy we had it. After all, it was a tool that simplified the job of removing and replacing the oil filter.
Without this tool, we would’ve had a difficult time with the oil on the filter which made it slippery. This little tool, however, slipped over the oil filter and when you turned it in the opposite direction, it would automatically tighten and the filter would come off easily.
The oil wrench was in use by almost everyone until the turn of the century. These days, most people have someone change their oil so the oil filter wrench is now in the vintage status.
