Keith Urban is someone who is generally known for his country music but there is also a lot that goes on behind the scenes as well. Recently, he opened up about Nicole Kidman and the love that she has shown to him.
It took place at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala when Nicole Kidman was being honored. Keith Urban spoke about the unconditional love that she showed to him on that day as she won the Lifetime Achievement Award.
It wasn’t just Keith who spoke about Kidman and her kindness, there were many people who came up to share stories and offer praise for her. It was Keith, however, who stole the show in many ways because of the speech he delivered about what she had given him.
“We got married in June 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens.
“Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months,” he continued. “I had no idea what was going to happen to us … If you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”
Keith had spoken about this in an interview in 2022 when he spoke about how drugs and alcohol played a big part in his coping with pain. In 1998 he went into rehab but relapsed eight years later, and that was when he was just getting started with Kidman.
“Nic pushed through every negative voice,” he said. “I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
He went on to express how important she was to him. He also said that he was raised like that, so his girls are lucky to be learning from her.
As Nicole Kidman sat in the audience with their daughters, he said: “I know tonight’s all about her body of work so far … but next year, we’ll be 20 years that I’ve been madly in love with you,” Keith concluded. She “Congratulations, baby girl. I love you.”
I think that says it all.
