During an interview in June, Jennifer Saunders confessed that she feels “ashamed of ” one performance during her time working with Dawn French on their hit sketch comedy show, “French & Saunders.”
The 63-year-old actress worked with her good friend for many years and promoted her newest West End musical, “Sister Act The Musical,” which ran at London’s Eventim Apollo. over the summer. Jennifer was on Zoe Ball’s Radio 2 Breakfast show talking about her newest projects when Zoe asked her:
“Is it the first time you have been a nun?
“I seem to remember you and Dawn have been Nuns before, I fear you may have?”
Giggling, Jennifer replied:
“Dawn and I have played some Irish nuns in a sketch once.
“I do remember my accent went around the world and I am slightly ashamed of that.”
Jennifer then talked about her love for habits, the name of a nun’s headwear.
She continued:
“A habit is a great thing because you don’t have to think about your hair and makeup and you can get the size of a house inside a habit, it doesn’t matter.”
“All shapes and sizes, it’s amazing!”
The performance Jennifer was referring to was a French and Saunders sketch called “Three Irish Nuns at the Vatican.”
In the sketch, viewers laughed at themselves to pieces as the nuns paid a visit to the pope and went to the Vatican store to grab a few essentials like Pope bath salts.
Jennifer played Mother Superior in the West End Musical.
