It’s a rather rare thing for characters to catch on in a sitcom. If you think back, most sitcom characters end up being rather forgettable. It takes something exceptional in a TV actor to truly leave a lasting impression on our hearts and minds, and the Vicar of Dibley’s Alice Tinker, played by the late Emma Chambers, did just that.[1]

Her bright smile and sunny disposition were simply irresistible. And while the lights weren’t all on upstairs, her personality nevertheless shined brilliantly.

It’s difficult to imagine what the show would have been like without her character, which is just one of the reasons why Emma Chambers’ passing hit fans so hard in 2018.

The former star was only 53 when she died suddenly from a heart attack. But, her memory will live on forever in the hearts of future generations of fans lucky enough to discover this show’s treasure for the first time.
