Matt and Lauren had spent 20 wonderful years together by each other side as they raised three beautiful little girls, Naomi Belle, Ali Rose, and Layne Louise. The couple had been thrilled in anticipation of welcoming a son, and the Accurso home was filled with excitement.
However, things soon took a tragic turn on April 29, when Matt’s 37-year-old wife passed away after experiencing a rare medical complication during childbirth.
The grieving husband and new father wept for his family’s painful loss, but he also had to remain strong as their baby son fought for his life while attached to numerous machines and tubes. Because of the complications during childbirth, little Matthew had suffered a significant brain injury, and his tiny body struggled with cognitive development and function.
Matt could only sit by his son’s side, helpless to help while the tiny infant was hooked up to all sorts of machines. However, the grieving father held on to the small measure of hope he had left.
About this time, Matt began praying for a miracle. Having lost his soulmate, Matt considered the prospect of losing their precious son. But, the weight of such a loss would have been too much for him to bear.
At the hospital, little Matther Jr. wore an outfit his late mother, Laurenlovingly picked out for him.
Lauren’s daughters were also coping with the loss of their beloved mom, while Matt had to figure things out without the support of his soulmate.
Soon the residents of St. Augustine, Florida, rallied around the family in their time of need bringing them meals, donations, and groceries.
We all continue to pray for the recovery of little Matthew and hope that in time the broken hearts of this family can begin to mend after such a terrible loss.
