Recently, in India, a man set the national record after doctors removed 156 stones of different shapes and sizes from his kidney after being admitted to the hospital due to excruciating abdominal pain.
Shortly after complaining of severe stomach pains, the 50-year-old teacher was admitted into a hospital in Hyderabad, India. However, doctors quickly learned that his pain wasn’t connective to any digestive issues but rather many kidney stones.
Doctors said it was the highest number of stones ever removed from an single patient in the country!
However, the bad news got even worse when they discovered that the stones were not in his urinary tract but in his abdomen.
This meant that he had to undergo a very long keyhole surgical procedure.
The surgery took three hours to complete and went very smoothly. The patient is now said to be recovering.
Kidney stones comprise chemicals that are typically passed out in a person’s urine.
They can be incredibly painful and lead to infections, even severe damage to the kidneys if left untreated.
Symptoms often include an excruciating sensation on the side of the abdomen which can come and go, along with constant nausea and vomiting.
