When we have an animal in our life, we will do whatever we can to keep them happy and healthy. We realize that they do so much for us and we can never pay them back for everything that they do. There are also times when somebody steps up to the plate and helps many dogs, and that is the case with a woman named Chantal van Kruining. She is very passionate about French Bulldogs and wants to do what she can to help the breed. It isn’t because she has one as a pet, but because she is a breeder herself and she has a vision to breed for health and not for show.
The dog’s appearance is very important in any dog show, and breeders will do what they can to make sure that they are sticking to very stringent regulations. At times, however, that can mean that the dog’s health will be sacrificed in the process. French Bulldogs have seen that problem and due to the way that they are bred, they often face breathing problems. She is doing what she can by reengineering the dog through specific breathing to help stop the issue with the breathing that they face. Of course, it is only a small thing that she is doing but it is hoped that it will start something larger and help the breed in the process.
French Bulldogs have a condition known as obstructive airway syndrome (BOAS). They will begin panting, even if they only get a small amount of exercise. It occurs because of selective breeding and a skull malformation that took place. The nostril openings are too narrow and the pallet is soft. It leads to severe breathing problems.
Chantal is doing what she can to help the breed. She fell in love with the dogs and felt a lot of pain as a result of what they were going through. Thanks to her reading program, she is hoping to change the mindset of judges to be more caring about the health of this breed.
