Teen Applies For College Only To Discover He Has Been A ‘Missing Person’ Most Of His Life

I think that most of us feel as if life is hiding some type of universal secret from us. Although most of us would admit that it isn’t probably true, we do hear of stories every once in awhile that let us know that on occasion, there are secrets that need to be uncovered. Some of these are a lot of fun to learn but others are not necessarily the most comfortable thing to come to realize. I think that is how Julian Hernandez felt when he discovered the secret that started back when he was only five years old.

In August 2002, Julian Hernandez was reported as missing from Alabama. The suspect in the case was Bobby Hernandez, his father and he disappeared at the same time as the child. As it turns out, he took him in a noncustodial parental abduction and got away with it for years. Investigators did what they could to find the child but after several years, they moved it into the cold case files. 13 years after the disappearance took place, however, more information came to be discovered. In fact, it came about in the strangest way and long story short, Julian Hernandez is now a teenager and has been found in Cleveland, Ohio.

It started when Julian was trying to apply for college at the age of 18. He noticed that his Social Security number did not match with his name and the school counselor chipped in to help. When the teen looked into it, he found that he was actually on the National Center for missing and exploited children! That is when the FBI got involved, along with the police department and the National Center for missing and exploited children. They worked on the case and confirmed that he was the missing child.

Julian’s father was arrested and is charged with tampering with records and interfering with custody. If convicted, he could be in jail for 10 years. Julian disappeared for more than a decade and the family released a statement, saying: “Our family was overjoyed this week to locate Julian and learn that he is safe. We want to thank everyone for their prayers and support during Julian’s disappearance.” Learn more in this video:
