From the time we are very young, we are going to have chores to do. We are often given these chores by our parents and provided with an allowance at the end of the week for accomplishing them. As we get older, we begin to realize that chores are a fact of life and eventually, we have to do them on a weekly basis and nobody stops to pay us when the week is over! One of these chores is doing laundry, and if you would like to hack the process and get things done better and faster, it all starts with grabbing a bottle of white vinegar. Here are some of the things it can do for you and your laundry routine.
1. Destroy odors
Many laundry detergents contain synthetic perfumes to mask odors but they can irritate the skin and cause breathing problems. Vinegar is able to kill bacteria and mold that keep the smell alive.
Add 2 cups of distilled vinegar to a full washer of hot water. Put the towels in on a normal cycle and follow with an additional cycle if desired. If you are doing clothing, add up to 1 cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle. You can also presoak extra stinky items in one cup of vinegar and cold water for 20 minutes prior to washing.
2. Kill the stain
We all are going to have stains to get rid of but white vinegar is the solution you need. Spray vinegar onto the stain directly and let it sit for up to 15 minutes before washing. You can also soak mild stains in a mixture of one cup of vinegar and 2 cups of warm water.
3. Keep dark clothing dark
Dark clothing can get lighter when you wash them over and over again. You can keep this from happening by putting up to 1 cup of vinegar in the final rinse cycle.
4. Kill the static
White vinegar can stop lint, static and pet hair from clinging to laundry. 1/2 cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle should do it.
5. Soften the load
Don’t use a commercial fabric softener, use vinegar in the laundry. 1/2 cup of vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser or adding it to the final rinse will do the trick.
6. Stop the bleeding
Vinegar keeps your brights bright and your Whites white without using harsh chemicals. You can also use it for stubborn stains. Put 1 1/2 cups of white vinegar in the wash cycle and you will be good to go.
