I think that there are 2 different types of people in this world, those who look at the math class they took in school and smile and those who would like to run screaming in the other direction. Although you likely had a favorite subject, it just seems as if math is one of those topics that tends to push people in one direction or another. At the same time, however, we can’t deny the fact that we use math on a regular basis and if we don’t have it as a part of our life, we are not likely going to get very far.
At times, it is a good idea to test your skills and this can be done in any number of different ways. For some people, testing skills means stepping up to the plate and doing something that may push you outside of your comfort zone. If you happen to be somebody who doesn’t enjoy math, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to be in that zone. In fact, even if you love math, you are going to find that this is a very challenging question. Why is that true? Quite simply, it is a very simple question but most people have forgotten more about math since they got out of school then they learned in the first place! Here is the equation. What do you get as the answer?
People tend to argue a little when they come up with a solution. After all, it seems like such a simple question but most people tend to fall short for a very simple reason. That reason is, they forgot what they learned about doing math problems.
Before I give you the answer, I’ll give you a hint. It isn’t just a matter of doing the equation that is right in front of you, if you want the true answer, you need to think about the order that you do it.
This is often expressed as PEMDAS
Remember, you need to solve the problem in parentheses first, then moved to the multiplication and finally do the addition part of the equation.
So what is the answer?
The answer is… 26!
How did you do?
