Giant DIY Spiders You Can Make so Your House Will Be the Creepiest on the Block

Do you decorate for Halloween? In the past, sometimes I have and sometimes I’ve skipped it. We live in the country and no one would see it but us.  However, this year has been so difficult in so many ways that I think it’s a good idea for all of us to bring some life to our homes in whatever way we can. You may already be brewing up some costume ideas and maybe even planning a spooky Halloween party for your kids and you, but what about your house? Whether your home is the best-dressed every Halloween or this is your first year decorating, these creep giant Australia-sized spiders are sure to be a winner.

The great news is that making these awesome spiders couldn’t be easier, thanks to our friends at Better Homes and Garden. Another thing that’s wonderful about these spiders is how realistic they look. You’ll be scaring your neighbor kiddos and their parents in no time with these. Let’s see how to make them. Here’s a list of the stuff you’ll need, and you probably have some of it around the house already:

Supplies

  • Two half-sphere wire globes (8-inch and 16-inch)
  • Furry fabric that resembles spider fur
  • Stem wire (16-gauge)
  • Foam tube (6 ft x 1 in) – this can be found at Home Depot or Walmart and is commonly used to wrap the pipes underneath your house
  • Zip ties

Instructions

  1. Attach the wire globes together with the zip ties, making the head and body.
  2. On the side of the large globe, weave four pieces of the wire. Loop it around the sides multiple times to make sure they’re secure.
  3. Cut the fabric fur and mold it to each circle. You can use hot glue for this if you need to.
  4. The foam tubing is for the legs. Cut it in large enough pieces to cover each of the wire legs. Be sure to cover every bit of wire, then bend the wires into the shape of the legs.
  5. Using twine, adhesive strips, hooks, or more wire, place your spiders all over the side of your house.
