Time travel is one of those concepts that’s just not for everyone. So often time travel stories involve some pretty confusing plot twists that play very fast and loose with the rules of the universe. Often times these, creative liberties drive physicists nuts! Usually, in time travel stories, we find things like paradoxes, time loops, and alternate realities (or split dimensions). The character, “Doctor Who,” describes time as “A big ball of wibbly wobbly, timey wimey stuff,” a description that’s sure to make just about any scientist roll their eyes in displeasure. However, those of us who love time travel stories, pay no attention to those sour-pusses.
We love the chaos, the crazier, the better! And, when it comes to zany time travel stories, the 1985 film, “Back to the Future,” might just take the cake. You’ve got a time-traveling “professor,” who uses a poor man’s Lamborghini to travel back and forth through time. Once more, this rolling time machine’s engine (the flux capacitor) runs off of garbage! Now, come folks, how can you not love this stuff? Plus, in the movie Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) has to somehow convinces his mom to fall in love with his dad. Only that she accidentally starts falling for him! Now, by the end of the film, things work for Marty’s parents and the time-traveling teen gets an opportunity to play a little good ole’ fashioned rock & roll and his parent’s senior prom.
In the video, Marty has to help out the “Starlights,” the band commissioned to play at the prom after their guitarist injures his hand. So Marty steps in, and after playing a nice slow version of “Earth Angel,” he kicks it up a notch with some rocking “Johnny B. Goode,” by none other than the Father of Rock & Roll Chuck Berry. Of course, the teen ends up going a bit overboard as he goes into some pretty hard, heavy metal rifts toward the end of the song that leaves the ’50s teens a bit confused.
