One of the most intriguing characters in Hollywood history is the British spy James Bond, code name 007. Since 1953, fans have been striking silly dramatic poses pretending to hold imaginary berettas while saying “Bond, James Bond.” The character was the creation of writer Ian Flemming who featured James Bond in twelve novels as well as two short-story collections. The first James Bond Television adaptation aired in 1954 with Barry Nelson playing James Bond. The story from the book was altered to make Bond an American agent working under the umbrella of a joint “Combined Intelligence” task force.
The first James Bond movie was released in 1962, as a film adaptation of Fleming’s 1958 “Dr. No” novel. The film featured Sean Connery as 007. Connery would go on to star in four other James Bond movies before leaving the role after making “You Only Live Twice” in 1967. The character was played by George Lazenby for the 1969 film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” However, Connery would reprise his role once more in 1971’s “Diamonds are Forever.” Then n 1973, Roger Moore would take over the part in the movie “Live and Let Die, and go on to play the secret agent six more times over twelve years. After more, Timothy Dalton starred in two films, and after a six-year-Bond drought, Peirce Brosnan was introduced in the 1995 film “GoldenEye” (which was a legendary Nintendo 64 video game). Finally, after Brosnan left the role in 2002, Bond returned to the big screen in 2006 with Daniel Craig taking over the martini glass. In this video, James Corden and David Beckham star in a hilarious skit about the two men competing at a casting call to see who’s going to be the next agent 007.
The scene opens with Corden sitting on a couch rehearsing a few popular catchphrases from the James Bond films. In walks Beckham to the wild applause from the lady’s in the studio audience. As the Soccer star sits down next to Corden and starts looking over the script, the Late Late host gives him a glaring look, before looking around and asking Beckham, “You know this is an auction for James Bond, right?” Beckham plays it cool, responding with “Yup.” As they sit before the casting agent, the two men are told that they would be playing 007 in a few scenarios to see which man was best suited for the role.
