There are somethings from the 1980s that are just too precious for this world. This was perhaps the last genuinely fun-loving decade in the world of music where artists were experimenting with some pretty far-out sounds. But, with the rise of MTV and music videos, it was also a period where everyone was trying to come out with the most creative music videos they could afford. This unique combination led to some priceless artistic monstrosities that blurred the line between incredible and terrible art (which is in and of itself genius art). The ’80s had big loud and bold fashion, hairstyles, and music that seemed to have one foot stuck in the ’70s with the other hanging over the edge of an unexplored planet.
Then, by the ’90s, the dream bubble popped as folks started getting into whiny grunge, flannel, and “irony.” But, whatever. We will still always have the ’80s a time where it was the wild west of imaginative art that made the times so exciting and fun to live in. One of the real gems from this decade was Styx’s 1981 classic music video for the song “Too Much Time on My Hands,” which was the second single on their triple-platinum album called “Paradise Theatre.” In this video, Jimmy Fallon and Paul Rudd pay tribute to this great music video by recreating it the masterpiece.
In the video, Fallon plays keyboardist Dennis DeYoung while Rudd plays the band’s lead singer and guitarist, Tommy Shaw. Fallon did a remarkable job recreating every scene right down to the smallest detail.
