There are moments in life when things just don’t go the way we planned. Often, these things are totally out of our control, but we can control how we respond. And while that sounds like your standard cookie-cutter “motivational advice” that you can find in about a gazillion self-improvement books, it also happens to be true. We really do control the outcomes when it comes to how we respond to any given situation. Of course, that’s easier said than done, as our emotions have a way of taking the driver’s seat. But, the key to remember is that every emotion is only a passenger, or rather a backseat driver.
One of the really hard things to deal with is problems at work. You’ve probably had a day where everything was rocking along smoothly at a job, and then suddenly, out of nowhere, BAM, a problem kicks over your sandcastle. Or, maybe you’ve had those days where nothing seemed to be going right from the get-go? These are the days when it’s hardest to maintain a good sense of humor, and yet they can make up the experiences that make us laugh the hardest when looking back on them. One guy who knew how to respond to things going wrong on the fly was the late-great game show host Bob Barker. In this video, we see how Bob handles unexpected mishaps with the kind of humor and grace; most of us could only dream of emulating.

In the video, we see guests taking a few nasty tumbles as they came “on down!” the stairs. We also see a few times when some of the games didn’t quite work the way they’re supposed to, prompting Bob and his guests to give the cheap props a few swift kicks. However, my favorites are those bloopers where folks fall while spinning the wheel. I don’t know why that makes me laugh so hard or if that makes me a horrible human being!
