K.D. Lang Performs Leonard Cohen Tribute With ‘Hallelujah’ – 2005 Juno Awards

When you stop to think about all of the wonderful music that has come our way throughout the years, it can really take your breath away. It isn’t just because the music has that ability on its own, it is because there are many powerful songs that have the ability to inspire us to do greater things. It doesn’t matter if it is a song that makes us feel better when we are feeling blue or perhaps one that makes us think about a loved one who has passed away, these are the songs that really stand out in our lives. One of the songs that seem to have that great ability is an old Leonard Cohen piece, Hallelujah.

Most people are familiar with Hallelujah and some are familiar with it on a very personal level. It gained most of its fame when it was used in the movie Shrek but most people don’t realize that it had been around for quite some time. A man by the name of Leonard Cohen originally wrote and performed the song but it was much different than the popular version that you often hear today. That being said, it may not have been as popular and might not have even been as beautiful as when it was sung by others but there is no doubt that Leonard Cohen gave us something very special when he passed that song along to us. Unfortunately, he died when he was 82 years old but he left us behind something special in the process.

Although there have been many people who have performed the song, Hallelujah, there is one person that really does it justice. It is k.d. lang, and she did more than just singing the song because she enjoyed it, she sang it as a tribute to Leonard Cohen and his gift to the music industry and all of us.

I’m sure that all of us have our own, personal likes and dislikes when it comes to music. We also likely realize that the variety of music we have in the world helps to make life interesting. You can be thankful that this beautiful song was written so that we could all enjoy it in so many different ways.
