Mean Joe Green Meets Up With ‘The Kid’ From Classic 1978 Coke Commercial

Sports have always been a part of our lives and most of us enjoy watching them when we have the opportunity to do so. We might watch them on television or perhaps even go see a game in person. In either case, it could be interesting to watch those talented players doing what they do best. Most of them tend to spend the majority of their celebrity lives on the playing field but every once in a while, one of those stars also becomes a celebrity for other reasons. They may have a personality that allows them to do so or perhaps they are just so iconic that they couldn’t help but be popular on a number of levels.

One of the ways that celebrities can become popular is to make it into a commercial. This is not only going to help to boost their status as a celebrity, it can be quite lucrative for them as well. Commercials may take place at any time of the year but on Super Bowl Sunday, they tend to be watched by more people and passed down from one year to the next. That was the case in the 1980s Super Bowl, when two unlikely people came together to create what is undoubtedly one of the greatest moments in Super Bowl history.

One of those individuals was already well-known. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is one of the star players from their Super Bowl team. His name is Mean Joe Greene and it doesn’t matter if you were alive in the 80s or not, you have probably heard his name and about some of the things that he did on the field. It is still being talked about, over three decades later.

In the commercial, Mean Joe Greene was met on his way down the tunnel by a young boy who wanted nothing more than to let him know just how much he cared for him. He loved Mean Joe and as a gesture of his goodwill, he offered him his Coca-Cola. After drinking it, Mean Joe gave him his shirt, and the rest was history. In the video below, they meet again 36 years after the iconic commercial.
