If someone were to ask you about your favorite musical group, would you have an answer that you have been giving for many years? Some of us may like a group from the time that we first hear them but there are others who may jump from one group to another, depending upon their popularity. Although we would probably all have a different answer, there are some groups that are just worth mentioning when it comes to their history and their performance. That is the case with The Doors, and regardless of whether you saw them live or have just heard their songs on the radio, they have an interesting story to tell.
One of the interesting things about this music group is the singer, Jim Morrison. He was well known as a musical poet, and he always tried to tell a story with his music, regardless of how ridiculous the story it happened to be. Amazingly, Jim Morrison and The Doors may not be where they are today if they were not on the cutting edge. After all, they had an opportunity to be on one of the most popular shows of the day and they took things to a level that even offended the talk show host. It was the Ed Sullivan show, a show that launched many careers successfully.
When Jim Morrison and The Doors were on the Ed Sullivan show, they were there to perform the song, ‘Light My Fire’. More than likely, you have heard the song on the radio and the words may seem unoffensive by today’s standards. Back at the time, however, there was an offensive line that included the word “higher”. They were able to be on the Ed Sullivan show because they agreed to take that word out of the song.
As it turns out, he completely ignored Ed Sullivan and included the word in the song. He did it on purpose and as a result of his doing so, he became a very popular person among teenagers. His career was cut short when he died but until that time, he just seemed to be going higher.
