We have quite a few cats, and as most cat owners know, different cats have entirely different personalities. Some are more laid back, while others are very excitable. We have cats who love to sleep all the time, and you barely know they are there. Then we have those who always come up looking for some TLC. We also have a few who love sneaking outside any chance they get. Then there are those who love to play with toys. Bernie, our baby, is one of those cats who gets a light in his eyes whenever we bring him a new thing to play with. There’s nothing like watching him cock his cute little face sideways to examine his new plaything before he pounces and starts rolling around with it.
Believe it or not, the many big wild cats are no different. Take Triton, for example; he’s an 11-year-old lion born at the Johannesburg Zoo in South Africa. One day Agnes Maluleke, his zookeeper, tossed Triton a soccer ball, and the big cat went wild! He chased it and batted it around just like a big kitten. Of course, a regular soccer ball didn’t last long as the cat’s teeth and claws soon flattened it. So they had a special ball made just for Trition, one that could better hold up to the big cat’s rough play.
The oversized ball was perfect. Triton was soon running around and batting the ball just like a real pro! He and his soccer ball have become quite the attraction at the zoo, as customers love watching the big cat play for hours.
