Most kids, especially girls, have their favorite hairstyles. It might be fancy braids, pigtails with cute ribbons, a simple ponytail, or maybe they enjoy wearing their hair straight and long with perhaps a lovely hairpin to accent it. And kids really love to show off their favorite hairstyle whenever their school has a crazy hair day. However, while most children look forward to this particular day, 7-year-old Gianessa was less than thrilled about it. You see, Gianessa was anxious because she lives with a condition called alopecia. Those living with this condition start losing patches of their hair, and eventually, it all falls out. This is what happened to Gianessa.
Gianessa first started to notice that she was losing a bit more hair than was usual. And before too long, it was all gone. Her mom, Daniella Wride, is a nurse and learned everything she could about the condition. However, she could tell that her daughter was having a challenging time coping. Her mom thinks that one of the most significant factors in her daughter’s hair loss had to do with the grief she felt after her grandmother had passed away. And with crazy hair day coming up, Gianessa began to get stressed because she thought the other kids might bully her at school.
Her fear caused the little girl to lose a lot of self-esteem. So, to boost her daughter’s confidence, her mom came up with an inspired idea. She wanted to show her Gianessa and all the kids at her school that losing your hair was nothing to feel ashamed of and that a person’s hair or lack of it does not define who they are.
So, being a super-crafty mom, Daniella decided to use sparkling jewels to give her daughter a beautiful and unique, crazy hairstyle!
Instead of having locks of hair, Gianessa’s head was full of glamourous, sparkling jewels, flowers, and she even had an adorable little owl. Daniella knew that her child loved glittery things. So, she and her daughter paid a visit to the scrapbooking department at their local store. Gianessa has dreams of becoming a fashion designer when she grows up, and she just knows that her future designs will have lots of sparkles and glitter.
Both Gianessa and her mom had a blast creating this fun new hairstyle. And, as it turns out, it was a big hit at school!
The children loved Gianessa’s hair. They all crowded around her the minute she arrived that day. It was a no-brainer who the winner of the school’s Crazy Hair Day contest would be. And when she was announced as the winner, Gianessa couldn’t have felt prouder.
At first, she thought her day was going to be one filled with fear, pain, and sadness, but it turned out to be one of her favorite memories! That day Gianessa regained her confidence, and now she even jokes with the other kids about her condition. She says that her body just didn’t care for her hair. But it doesn’t matter, because Gianessa has found a way to make it work for her.
