Pentatonix Puts A Stunning Spin On ‘Sound Of Silence’ And Goes Viral

There are some songs out there that are hot for a moment. These songs seem to play on the radio hundreds of times a day and get stuck in your head. But then, they are replaced by the next pop sensation. However, there are also those rare tunes that become timeless classics and pop up on our radars over and over again after another artist decides to cover them. We may think the artist or group who originally performed the song did it perfectly, but sometimes other artists can add something new to the song to make it completely different.  That’s what we see from the now world-famous a Capella group, Pentatonix. Ever since the first day of the third season of NBC’s “Sing-Off” in 2011, this group has gone on to do some amazing things online.

While there are many fine bands out there making some great music, there are just some who seem to stand head and shoulders above the rest. For example, Simon and Garfunkel will always stand out as a fan favorite and their hit classic “The Sound of Silence,” stands as one of the greatest songs of all time. When Pentatonix decided to cover this song, folks had no idea what to expect. But they took their powerful voices and put them together to form something that gave us goosebumps from the opening note.

Singers Kristin Maldonado, Mitch Grassi, Scott Hoying, Kevin Olusola, and Matt Sallee (who replaced Avi Kapli when he left in 2017), seems to have been able to master any song they put their voices to. They do not use any instruments, but rather, they use their voices to make all the sounds. It’s a magical way to perform, and they do it better than anyone I’ve ever heard do it before.

They are starting a world tour in 2019, and tickets just went on sale, but they released this song in advance of their tour, and it has fans salivating for more! They’ve gained international acclaim because of how they cover the classics, but this performance outdoes everything they’ve done so far!

At the beginning of the song, when you hear Scott singing, you may think that it could not possibly get much better. But, just wait until you hear the rest of them join in! They start humming the background vocals, and before you know it, the singing begins, and it’s almost a transcendental experience.

Matt Sallee may be the newest member to join the group, but he’s certainly no amateur. He manages to blend his voice with the rest of them like the seasoned pro he is.

Kristen adds lots of musical sounds with her mezzo-soprano tones and balances out the masculine voices in the group quite nicely.

The sound of silence will always be a classic, but this group has elevated it to a new level that we’ve never had the pleasure of hearing before. We’re sure you will be as equally amazed and delighted as we were when you hear it!

Here’s a video of their rendition of “The Sound of Silence.”.
