In Great Britain, two teenage sweethearts who both have Down syndrome were crowned prom king and queen following a vote from their classmates.
According to reports, 16-year-olds Dylan Hughes and Amelie Barker were “thrilled” when they found out they won. In fact, Dylan didn’t even want to take off his crown and sash after they had gotten home.
The two teens were given the title at Monmouth Comprehensive School in Monmouthshire, Wales after they won a poll undertaken by their fellow students.

Dylan’s mother, Victoria, said:
“They have become very close over the last 18 months and we all started to realise there was a romance going on.
“Then in March Dylan asked me if he could take Amelie out on a date. They wanted to go to Pizza Express together, just the two of them. It was a lovely idea.”
“The manager and staff were really helpful, they kept an eye and had my telephone number just in case.
“Dylan and Amelie were so excited, I was the one that was a bit nervous. I wanted to hide in the car around the corner.3
“But it went off beautifully, they really enjoyed their first date just like any other teenagers.”
Love Blossoms
From that moment, love continued to bloosom for the teenage sweethearts. They spent many evenings and weekends together, taking trips to the movies, among other things.
The Heartwarmng Vote
The students at Dylan and Amelie’s high school came through in a big way by offering such a lovely, heartwarming gesture to the two lovebirds. And it certainly looks like both Dylan and Amelie had the time of their life at the prom!
We would like to give a big thank you to all the students who made this special occasion possible for Dylan and Amelie!
