Although we are all individuals and we each have our unique personalities, likes and dislikes, there is something that all of us have in common. I’m talking about a love of music and regardless of whether you listen to it all the time or if you only listen to it when it happens to be convenient to do so, it does have the ability to move us. There are very few things that can pull us out of the lowest of lows and put a smile on our face or bring us from the height of ecstasy down to despair within only a few verses.
One of the ways in which many of us enjoy music is through musicals. Thinking back to 1986, the Phantom of the Opera was thrilling audiences worldwide and to date, over 145 million people have been able to see it. It is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s crowning achievements and if you haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy it as of yet, it is not too late to do so.
Antonio Banderas is somebody who developed a friendship with Webber when he was working on the film, Evita. This was also a musical that was composed by Webber. Banderas ended up playing one of the lead roles in Evita and people were amazed that he has so much musical talent.
Fans were also delighted when he was asked to sing at “Andrew Lloyd Webber – The Royal Albert Hall Celebration” because the composer was turning 50. Banderas performed the title song from Phantom of the Opera while standing alongside one of the original cast members, Sarah Brightman.
You can feel the power in his voice from the moment that he started singing. It is almost guaranteed that anybody who was listening from the audience was dealing with a serious case of the goosebumps. Combining his vocal talents and his accent made it seem even more amazing.
