More than likely, you have a favorite dog breed. I’ll be the first one to admit that every dog has its good points that would make them the perfect dog for your family but there is one dog that stands head and shoulders above the rest and it does so literally. I’m talking about the great Dane. They are perhaps one of the most unique breeds that you will ever come across. Not only are they absolutely huge, with the average male Great Dane weighing in at as much as 175 pounds or more. They also stand 30 inches tall, which is absolutely huge.
The tallest dog ever recorded in the world was Zeus and he was a great Dane. When he was standing on all fours, he was 44 inches high from the bottom of his paws up to the top of his shoulders. These dogs are not only tall, but there are also extremely powerful. Great Danes were bred for hunting and they could chase down a wild boar and keep it contained until the humans were able to get there. They did this for many years.
When you think about how huge Great Danes are, you might not be that surprised to find out that they have a rather fearful reputation. Some people are afraid of them but there are many people, those who actually know the breed, who know just how kind they are. They are known for being very friendly and rather excitable and sometimes, they just don’t know their own size and strength. It’s little wonder that Marmaduke was a great Dane and he is one of the funniest dogs of all time!
