The young environmental engineering student never returned to his hotel room that night. Panic set in quickly as his phone went completely dark.

Security cameras captured his final movements at Kyoto Station around eight fifteen in the evening on May 29. Investigators discovered his phone completely lost its network service just fourteen minutes later.

The nightmare reached its tragic conclusion on June 6 when a volunteer rescue group made a devastating discovery. They found the young hiker deceased in a remote mountainous area outside Kyoto.
“Our family is heartbroken to share that Weston was found deceased by a volunteer search-and-rescue group in a mountainous area outside of Kyoto,” Nancy wrote.
The grief stricken family asked for privacy as they prepared for the long journey home without their boy.
