Long-Distance Grandma Shows Us All How To Stay Connected

One of the difficulties that many grandmothers face is living far away from their family. They become long-distance grandparents and sometimes, it can be difficult to keep the relationships strong.

One mother who understands this all too well is Sarah Penewit. On January 12, 2024, her son, Dawson was born. Her mother came to visit and to help the parents adjust to life as a new family.

Many of us have had this experience and it is wonderful to have the assistance of someone during such a difficult time. Like many grandparents, however, this grandmother had to leave to go back home again to Texas.

It wasn’t easy to say goodbye to her grandson and the grandmother wanted to keep the bond strong. That is when she decided to start a YouTube channel so she could read books to Dawson virtually.

When the videos were shared with the Your Positive News Facebook group, many more people became aware of what this loving grandmother had done. Not only was she reading, her little grandson was paying attention to every word.

The caption read: “My mom lives out of state and wants to be part of our son’s life. So she made a YouTube channel where she reads him stories.”

Sarah also posted again to express how appreciative she was for the support she received while she was pregnant and after they brought the baby home.

“I’m so grateful for a mom who is willing to sacrifice her own sleep so that we can get ours,” she wrote. “A mom who breaks her leg halfway through her stay with us and says ‘it’s a blessing in disguise. Now I get to spend more time with you.’ A mom who is respectful of our intimate family time and asks if we need her or need space. The list goes on.”

In conclusion, she said that she hoped to be half the mother her mother is someday.
